You know delta-8 as "weed-lite" or the "chillest of the cannabinoids." But what about all the potential health benefits of this unique compound?
While we love the buzz of a D8 gummy, a clear-headed and relaxed high isn't the only thing going for this cannabinoid. Check out all the whole-body benefits D8 research has yielded!
A hallmark of cannabis is its ability to reduce pain and inflammation. Delta-8 is no exception. D8 seems to have antinociceptive (blocking pain perception from sensory neurons) and anti-inflammatory (reduce swelling and accompanying pain) effects.(1)
This means that delta-8-THC might relieve pain due to things like arthritis, menstrual cramps, migraines, bruising, and swelling.
If delta-8-THC can effectively treat pain in humans, it would be a major breakthrough. Current pain medications are often addictive and have many side effects. D8 could provide an alternative for those seeking relief. Plus, unlike THC, D8 has a lower psychoactive effect — which might make it more feasible for people taking it on the reg.
Like other cannabinoids, delta-8 seems to have anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) properties. In a survey, 69% of D8 users said they used the cannabinoid mainly to manage anxiety and panic attacks. And 52% reported using it for stress reduction.(2)
If you're someone who's often overloaded with stress, delta-8 might be a helpful tool in your wellness arsenal.
Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy often face debilitating nausea and vomiting. Research suggests that delta-8-THC is a strong nausea suppressant.
It's shown to be effective at preventing nausea in patients receiving cancer treatment.(3) In one study, the eight children who received D8 treatment had no vomiting and didn't experience any noticeable side effects.
Delta-8 also has shown the potential to be an anticonvulsant. Animal studies have found that D8-treated mice had a significant decrease in seizure activity.(4)
There's already a CBD-based drug (Epidiolex) on the market for seizure disorders — so it's not too much of a stretch to think that D8 has the potential to be used similarly one day.
Several studies have demonstrated the anti-tumor effects of delta-8 THC.(5,6) Cancer research has shown that cannabinoids like delta-8-THC inhibit tumor growth in culture and animal models, without the toxic effects of traditional chemotherapy.(7)
While there are no current cancer-fighting D8 drugs, we're keeping a close eye on any developments in this area.
Delta-8 seems to increase appetite and food intake in animal models. And anecdotal reports suggest that it may have a similar effect in humans.
At the same time, D8 does not seem to promote weight gain in users. Instead, cannabis use is linked with a lower weight. What gives? It might be that while cannabis stimulates appetite in the short term, it interacts with your endocannabinoid system (ECS) in other ways that may push the brakes on fat storage and boost metabolism.(8)
So, delta-8-THC could potentially help those trying to lose weight, not by suppressing appetite but by interacting with the ECS to promote fat burning.
Cannabinoids have been eyed as potential glaucoma treatments since the 1970s. That’s because cannabinoids like delta-8-THC interact with the CB1 and CB2 receptors found in the eye.(9)
In a study on rabbits given delta-8-THC, researchers found that intraocular pressure — a key risk factor for developing glaucoma — was reduced.(10)
Cannabis research suggests that THC might help increase time spent in deep sleep (that sweet slumber that leaves you feeling refreshed in the morning).(11)
Because delta-8-THC and THC (delta-9) are so structurally similar, we may expect D8 to have similar effects on the sleep cycle.
We're proud of these 100% organic and vegan D8 gummies. But don't take our word for it.
